MARGAO: Mystery shrouds the skeletal remains unearthed from an outhouse of a bungalow in Aquem, Margao on Saturday night.
After the skeletal remains, which were found buried inside the outhouse were unearthed on Saturday, raising suspicions of homicide, a team of Margao police headed to Bijapur in Karnataka to probe into an angle of homicide that must have taken place over a decade ago.
The skeletal remains comprising of a skull and bones were unearthed from a storeroom of the outhouse which was occupied by the caretaker of the bungalow hailing from Bijapur area.
The incident came to light when labourers who were working in the storeroom to extend the structure stumbled upon the skeletal remains buried underneath, but covered with a thin layer of cement and concrete.
Margao PI Kapil Nayak and his team swung into action after getting the information, and have already interrogated a close friend of the caretaker, from whom they learned that the caretaker and his family were natives of Bijapur and had left the place over a decade ago.
“The police suspect that the skeletal remains are that of the male caretaker, who was staying in the outhouse along with his wife and children. Along with the skeletal remains, we have found a short pant and a T-shirt, which was perhaps worn by the caretaker at the time of his death,” PI Kapil added.
In a new twist, PI Kapil said information gathered by the police has further revealed that the caretaker’s wife, who had left for Bijapur, has reportedly ended her life.
“The police team which has been sent to Bijapur will interrogate the son to shed light on the episode as he was staying along with his parents at the outhouse at Aquem at the time,” PI Kapil said, adding that the police would also verify about the death of the woman.
Right now, the police have registered a case of unnatural death, with PI Kapil saying that the police team in Bijapur has interrogated the son of the deceased caretaker.
“We are bringing the caretaker’s son to Goa and we expect a breakthrough in the mystery soon,” PI Kapil added.
