MARGAO
Wholesale fish market sopo contractor Milagres Fernandes on Wednesday said he has put things in order in the market ever since MLA Wilfred D’Sa presided over the South Goa Planning and Development Authority as its Chairman.
Addressing the media, Milagres said issue of floating tender for the collection of sopo fees purely rests with the SGPDA, adding that he may also place his bids as and when the PDA floats the tender.
While rubbishing the allegations made against him by certain fish traders, Milagres pointed out that he has ensured that not a single fish vendor is allowed to do business at the entrance gate of the wholesale fish market.
“One may ask the people of Seraulim whether they have come across any fish vendor selling fish outside the market entrance or on the road”, he said, adding that the market has witnessed a turnaround since the time MLA Wilfred D’Sa has taken over the reins of the SGPDA.
The sopo contractor said he has lodged a complaint with the PDA stating that actual weight of the fish boxes sold in the market by some traders does not tally with the claims made by the traders. “Maybe, some people think that I am an obstruction to their activities in the market. Hence, they are making allegations,” he said, adding that he and his family are Niz Goemkars and not outsiders.
