Urban Development Minister Milind Naik on Tuesday said the government’s decision to approach the supreme court over the mining ore dumps could help revive business in the port town.

“Mining activity is important all over Goa, especially in Mormugao. A lot of people who were once dependent on mining may see good days yet again if the Supreme Court gives a positive response to the government’s application on the mining of dumps,” Naik said while addressing reporters on his birthday.

“I feel mining activity should resume soon and once this happens, the export of mines will happen through the port, which is in my constituency. A lot of people and businesses like barges have been affected because of the mining ban.”

“Once mining activity starts, the MPT will also do good business which will help everyone in the

bargain and maybe more people could be employed as well.”

“There are a lot of other mining-related businesses connected to the port like barges and trucks. Everyone cannot get government jobs and good business in the port can employ other small businesses connected to the port. We hope that mining resumes early and the Supreme Court gives a fruitful decision in the matter,” Naik said.

On the occasion, a Satyanarayan Pooja was held at Milind Naik’s office and several people gathered to wish him on his birthday. Several BJP MLAs also made their presence felt at Sada to greet the urban development minister on his birthday.
