MARGAO
Mystery surrounds the recovery of a human hand in a highly decomposed state at a parking lot of a residential colony at Ambaji-Fatorda on Saturday.
The Goa police as well as the citizens, however, have been left baffled how and from where the dog has brought the decomposed hand to the residential colony.
The decomposed hand was lying at the parking lot and a dog sitting by the side. It was first spotted by a resident of an adjoining building who spotted the dog sitting by the side of the decomposed hand.
After the resident Kartik saw the human hand at around 8 am in the morning and conveyed the message to others in the colony, the Goa police descended at Ambaji to investigate into the incident.
Sub-divisional Police officer, Margao DySP Santosh Desai along with Fatorda police station in-charge, PI Ditendra Naik rushed to the spot. The police immediately requisitioned the services of a sniffer dog and scientific experts to gather clues and help in the investigations.
Police sources said the men-in-uniform are working on various theories to shed light and unravel the mystery. One theory explored by the police is that the hand is of a human being, probably that of a rag picker, who might have expired some time back.
DySP Santosh Desai informed that the dog might have probably brought the decomposed hand from a nearby place after coming across the decomposed human body.
“The recovered hand is in a highly decomposed state. We have recovered the hand and sent it to the South Goa district hospital mortuary for preservation”, he said.
While the Fatorda police have registered a case of unnatural death in connection with the recovery of the hand, the police are expected to explore the possibility of conducting DNA test on the hand as precautionary measure.
The Fatorda police is investigating.
