Delay in shack allotment: Owners to knock govt doors for refund of fees of 3 months

MARGAO
With the government delaying the allotment of shacks this season and tourists yet to hit the State in a big way, beach shack owners have decided to knock government doors to refund the shack fees for the three months of October, November and December.

President of Shack Owners Society Cruz Cardozo told the media that some of the beach shack owners have still not erected their shacks this season after the delay in the allotment of the beach shacks.

“The Tourism Department has charged the beach shacks operators for the entire season. But, there was a delay on the government’s part to allot the beach shacks. There was a delay of three months in the allotment of shacks. Some of the operators have not even erected beach shacks. The government should consider our plea for return of the fees for the three-month period,” he added.

On the collection and disposal of the sewage generated by beach shacks, Cruz pointed out that the operators have procured tanks for sewage collection. “Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira has suggested engaging a private agency to collect and dispose of the sewage. We will place the proposal before the beach shack operators after receiving survey report from the private agency,” he added.
