A delegation of Dakshinayan Abhiyan led by Dr Ganesh Devy which included Professor Rajendra Cheni, Megha Pansare, Surekha Devi and Shashidhar Todkar met Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bangalore and demanded that the Government expedite investigation of murder of eminent Scholar Dr M M Kalburgi, who was shot dead by unknown assailants in his house on August 30, 2015, and arrest the murderer at the earliest.
The delegation brought to the notice of the Chief Minister that the assassination of Kalburgi was preceded by assassinations of Dr Narendra Dabholkar and Comrade Govind Pansare in the neighbouring State of Maharashtra and there was outrage and anguish in the civil society which led to returning of Sahitya Akademi awards by thirty-nine writers.
The Chief Minister assured the delegation that Karnataka has a long tradition of social reforms and has reputation as State of peace and order. "The people of Karnataka have held the writers and thinkers in high esteem and that has helped literature and arts to flourish in the State.
"Considering the importance of our pluralistic cultural traditions, our Government is firmly committed to root out any attempt at spreading intolerance in the state and all fanatic fringes spreading fear among the community of writers and intellectuals," the Chief Minister said.
He was very sympathetic to the demand and has instructed the Karnataka investigation team to interact closely with the Government of Maharashtra and take appropriate action to track the assailants, says a press release issued by Dakshinayan Abhiyan.
