PANAJI: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta yesterday handed over Rs 10 lakh each to the family of four Delhi residents who lost their lives in the tragic nightclub fire at Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora, Goa, last December.
Cabinet Minister and Karawal Nagar MLA Kapil Mishra, present at the Delhi Secretariat during the handover, described the tragedy as the result of “serious negligence,” not merely an accident.
“Soon after the incident, I met the family and informed them about the Chief Minister’s announcement of financial assistance,” Mishra said, adding that the Chief Minister personally met the family, handed over the total assistance of Rs 40 lakh, and assured them of all possible support.
42-year-old Vinod Kumar, 42-year-old Anita Joshi, 41-year-old Saroj Joshi, and 44-year-old Kamla Joshi, all members of the same family from Sadatpur Extension in northeast Delhi, were among the 25 lives lost in the Dec 6 blaze.
Bhavana Joshi, a member of the affected family, spoke about the devastating impact. “The incident has completely changed my life. In a single moment, I lost four members of my family.” She added that she is now responsible for three elderly parents and four children and expressed gratitude for the assistance provided.
