\\\\\\\ : Traders from Margao’s two municipal markets, the New market and the Gandhi market, on Monday took a morcha on the Margao Municipality demanding a total ban on sales taking place in the city.
Led by New Market Traders Association president Vinod Shirodkar and Gandhi market Vendors Association leader Babu Azgaonkar, they issued a warning to Municipal Chairperson Arthur D’Silva to either ban the saleor face the wrath of the traders and vendors.
They duo told the Chairperson to place a proposal before the ordinary meeting of the Council and adopt a resolution banning the sales cum exhibitions.
Both Vinod and Babu later told the media that they will not sit quite if the Municipality fails to concede to their demand on the ban on sales. “We have been forced to come with this morcha because the Municipality has failed to take note of our demands. We will be forced to take the law in our hands if the Civic body does not do justice to us”, Vinod warned.
Babu Azgaonkar accused the Municipality for fooling the traders and vendors by not scrapping the sales from the sales. “The sales have adversely affected the business in the two markets. We will come out on the streets to fight for justice if the Civic body fails to act”, Babu warned.
Arthur later told the media that the issue will be placed before the ordinary meeting of the Council for an appropriate decision. “The Council had in the past resolved to allow the sales upon payment of fees. It is this Council which had regulated the sales by ensuring that no sale take place in the city on the eve of the major festivals”, Arthur added.
