Gau Raksha organisation Govansh Raksha Abhiyan in a memorandum to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has demanded that the Goa government emulate Karnataka government’s new anti-cattle slaughter law, the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill (2020).
The organization has also demanded that tourists should be banned from eating beef in Goa putting ahead a logic that this will scale down the slaughter of nearly 200 heads of cattle.
Hanumant Parab of Govansh Raksha Abhiyan claims that Goans eat beef occasionally and the picture that is being painted that Goans only eat beef is incorrect.
"Some Goans eat beef may be some times during festive occasions," said Parab.
With a claim that most of the beef volume is consumed by visiting tourists, Parab said that nearly 200 cattle are slaughtered to feed the demand of 25 tons of beef in the State every day.
“The government should immediately stop the sale of beef to tourists. Most beef in Goa is sold to tourist. In that way, the scale of cattle slaughter will immediately drop and the red meat will be available for local Goans, those who want to eat beef,” Parab said.
The recent stringent anti-cattle slaughter law in Karnataka has created a beef availability crisis in Goa, especially with Christmas and the festive season looming ahead.
