Demand for Quepem to host 3rd district HQ

Joining in the discussion over the new headquarter for the proposed third district, former deputy chief minister and former Quepem MLA Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar said Quepem town would be the ideal headquarter.

Speaking to media persons at Barcem on the sidelines of the inauguration of donation coupons of Sarvajanik Shree Ganeshotsav Mandal, Pisonem-Barcem on Sunday, Kavlekar welcomed the third district for the four talukas of Dharbondara, Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona.

Kavlekar, however, did not favour the proposal that Curchorem be the headquarters of the third district.

“Quepem should be the headquarter, irrespective of the name of the third district,” said Kavlekar.

“We along with a Quepem BJP delegation met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at his Sanquelim residence. We informed him that Quepem town was already a sub-district with an SDO, SDPO, Court and all the administrative offices that a sub-division has, years before the sub-divisional statuses given to other talukas like Sanguem, Canacona and Dhabandora with SDOs. Quepem town would be an ideal headquarter.”

“Quepem is also centrally located to all other three talukas. The chief minister has primarily agreed to our request and everyone should be happy with this assurance,” Kavlekar added.

Meanwhile, Kavlekar launched the donation coupons of the Sarvajanik Shree Ganeshotsav Mandal, Pisonem- Barcem (Quepem) in the presence of ZP (Barcem) Khushal Velip, ZP (Khola) Shanu Velip, Barcem Sarpanch Mohan Gaonkar, Mandal president Shrikant Gaonkar and others.

Priced at Rs 200 each, the 19,000 donation coupons will have two 4-wheelers, 10 2-wheelers, Fridges and TVs among the total 20 prizes on offer.
