The battle for the Cuncolim Congress ticket for the 2022 Assembly election has begun.
An ex-general secretary of Cuncolim Congress block, Paresh Desai, has set the ball rolling by demanding that the party should not import any candidate from outside the constituency.
“We have enough competent candidates from Cuncolim who will be keen to represent the people of the constituency in the Assembly. It is also a question or our own self-respect and honour that the person who will keep the Congress flag flying high in Cuncolim, should be a son or daughter of the soil and not any borrowed candidate,” Paresh stated in his letter to the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar.
Incidentally, Paresh had quit the post of party general secretary days after Assis Noronha, a close confidante of former Cuncolim MLA and Minister, Joaquim Alemao, was appointed the president of Cuncolim Block Congress Committee.
In his letter to the GPCC Chief, Paresh said the time has now come for the party to keep away from self-centered defectors some of whom are habitual. “They have been taking the party for granted after using it to get elected. People of Cuncolim constituency are not in a mood to tolerate defectors any longer. Please consider the fact that historically betrayers have not been shown mercy by our people,” Paresh told the GPCC Chief in his letter.
