VASCO
The demolition of the old Vasco fish market began on Friday and the work on the foundation for the new fish market will begin in two days.
The demolition began in the presence of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) officials and Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar.
Speaking to reporters, Salkar acknowledged that the fish market project has been a joint effort.
"Governance is a continuous process and while I may have been here to take the fish market project forward, I cannot take entire credit as former MLA Carlos Almeida and the previous municipal council also put a lot of effort into this project. It has been a joint effort that finally Vasco fish market project is seeing the light of day," said Salkar.
"Fish vendors have shifted to roads outside the old fish market as of now, and will soon shift to the new temporary locations. They have been waiting to offer religious prayers and seek blessings of the priest to get good business before they can shift to the temporary location.”
"Work has officially begun, and we have dismantled the roofing, and we will carry out the demolition. This demolition work will be finished in two days, and then work on the foundation for the new fish market complex will begin. Work on this new fish market will begin immediately after the demolition works are completed in two days," added Salkar.
