Majority of the structures earmarked for demolition were razed to the ground on Saturday, as the demolition team returned at Merces to complete the unfinished work.

It may be recalled that the demolition was carried out due to a High Court order directing the demolition of 50 structures located in 17 properties.

However on Friday, only a few structures could be demolished as there was some opposition from the property owners initially.

Some structures were dismantled by the people themselves but still some more structures remain to be demolished and authorities informed that they would return on Sunday to complete the job.

An official also informed that the job doesn’t end after the demolition and the land needs to be returned to its original status, and for that the mud used for land filling has to be removed in due course of time.
