The Goa State Council of the Communist Party of India (CPI) while reiterating its commitment to fight against corruption, black money and fake currency notes, has stated that the decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes has created more hardships for people and should be reviewed.
Secretary of CPI Goa State Council, Christopher Fonseca, said, “The introduction of Rs 2,000 currency notes is causing much more difficulties as there are not enough currency notes of lesser value. The exchange should be in notes of Rs 100, Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 only. The release of Rs 2,000 currency notes will create opportunities to double the quantum of black money.”
He said that if the government was sincere to curb the parallel economy based on black money, it should have taken the people into confidence about the WikiLeaks list of those Indians holding accounts in foreign banks and the list of those who have investments in foreign countries leaked in the Panama papers.
“Besides, the banks should take immediate measures to recover the money taken as loans and converted into Non-Performing Assets (NPA). Properties of such defaulters must be confiscated,” he said.
In this regard, the Goa State CPI will organise demonstrations and dharnas at banks and income tax offices to stress the demands related to black money, deposits and investment in foreign countries and recovery of NPAs.
