Exhorting the Prime Minister’s move to demonetise the currency of higher denominations in the country, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said it was the right step to curb fake currency menace, black money and terror activities.
“On November 8, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dropped a big bomb and pulverised the fake currency racket encouraged by the enemy in our territory,” Parrikar said.
The Defence Minister was speaking at the Vijay Sankalp rally at Sirsaim football ground in Tivim constituency on Friday evening in the presence of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, BJP State President Vinay Tendulkar, Water Resources Minister Dayanand Mandrekar, Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar, local MLA Kiran Kandolkar and several other BJP legislators and leaders.
He said demonetisation was a huge decision taken by the government to give financial stability and security to the country.
“By infusing fake currency into the nation, our enemy country was trying to destabilise and destroy our financial stability,” he said.
He acknowledged that some people have suffered owing to the sudden decision. But people have also realised that the decision was taken for the welfare of the nation, he added.
He further said the country’s borders were more safe and secured in the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He also said the State government faced a lot of problems, particularly financial, but managed to tide over the crisis with planning and a little help from the Centre.
“Though we faced financial problems, we never fell short of development and kept the welfare schemes going in the State,” he said.
The Defence Minister assured the local MLA of the Centre’s assistance to accomplish major works in the constituency.
“I will ensure that financial assistance for the Assonora bypass, Tivim bypass and horticulture depot will be provided from the Central fund,” Parrikar said to a loud applause.
Praising Tivim MLA Kiran Kandolkar, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said the legislator has been a very hardworking legislator.
“As horticulture chairman, he not only brought vegetables from Belagavi but also encouraged local farmers to grow vegetables and gave them a platform to market their products,” Parsekar said.
The Chief Minister said the BJP-led government has not only carried out development in their own MLAs constituency but also in the constituencies of the opposition.
“All-round development is taking place in the State. We have launched several schemes for different communities in the State,” he said.
He reminded the gathering that in the last elections, the Tivim MLA was elected with over 10,000 votes and urged them to elect him with thumping margin of over 5,000 votes.

Illegal houses on comunidade land will be regularised: Parrikar

Stating that Dabolim airport has been choked, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said Mopa airport was the need of the hour and will reduce pressure on the present airport.
He also promised the local MLA that his concern on regularising illegal houses on comunidade land will also be addressed soon.
“Dabolim airport is choked. Many times, planes have to circulate above on account of lack of space on the present airport. Mopa airport will come up within two and half years,” he said.
He further said BJP will address all the problems of Goans and assured the Tivim MLA that his concern on illegal houses will also be taken care off.
“The process of drafting a bill to regularise the houses on comunidade land is underway. We will soon get it cleared,” he assured the MLA in the presence of the large gathering.
