CEO, Goa held a Special Summary Revision (SSR) 2017 from September 15 to October 14 during which 1,55,995 forms were received of which 46,777 were to include the names; 15,293 sought deletion of their names, 89,207 sought correction in their names and 4795 applications sought transposition of entry in the electoral roll.
Addressing a press conference, Chief Electoral Officer Kunal informed, “As regards inclusion of names is concerned, 90 per cent of the forms have been accepted and similar is the case with other forms too.”
Speaking about the SSR 2017, he said, “We had a massive exercise involving different sections of the society, particularly youth and new voters who have attained 18 years of age but had not enrolled as voters. Our focus is two-fold, inclusion of new voters and deletion of the dead and shifted in which we have achieved substantial progress.”
When asked about appointing election ambassador for Goa, Kunal said, “We are still looking out for people because the criterion is very strict. The person has to be apolitical and should be willing to give a message to the society. We are in the process of finding of finding an appropriate ambassador for Goa.”
Commenting on the trend observed as far as the SSR is concerned, he said, “In the last four years there is an increase in the number of people getting enrolled as voters, which is mainly due to campus ambassadors and social media. When we compare the lectors-population ratio, we are fairly close to 71 per cent which is an ideal figure.”
He however informed that CEO, Goa would ensure minimal inconvenience to people during the code of conduct as most of the economy is driven by tourism.
“Once the elections are announced we have to enforce the model code of conduct. Considering the special case of Goa wherein large part of the economy is driven by tourism and destination weddings, we will take into consideration all such factors when we enforce the model code of conduct with minimal inconvenience to the public as well as to the tourists”, he said.
