In view of the increased risk of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases during the monsoon season, the Directorate of Health Services in association with the Shirsode Health Sub-Centre, organised a Dengue Awareness and Health Check-up Camp at Surguli village in Sattari.
The primary objective of the camp was to create awareness about dengue, promote early diagnosis, and educate residents on preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease.
The camp, held at the residence of Pradeep Gaonkar in Surguli, received an enthusiastic response from the local community. A large number of women participated in the programme, while people from different age groups also availed themselves of the health services offered.
During the camp, health officials provided detailed information on the symptoms of dengue, including fever, body aches, headache, pain behind the eyes, and skin rashes.
Participants were also educated about preventive measures such as eliminating mosquito breeding sites, maintaining cleanliness in and around their homes, cleaning and emptying water storage containers once a week, and preventing water stagnation in coolers, tanks, flower pots, old tyres, and other containers.
As part of the programme, all participants underwent primary health screening, while blood tests were conducted for individuals requiring further examination. Health workers advised residents to seek immediate medical attention at the nearest health centre if they experienced symptoms such as persistent fever, severe body pain, or other suspected signs of dengue.
On the occasion, Siya Mouskar and Rama Gawas explained the importance of mosquito control, environmental cleanliness, and personal health care. They also highlighted the need for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, consuming a balanced diet, and undergoing regular health check-ups to prevent seasonal illnesses.
Following the camp, the Health Department carried out anti-mosquito fogging throughout Surguli village to help reduce the mosquito population and minimise the risk of dengue transmission.
The organisers acknowledged the support of staff at the Shirsode Health Sub-Centre, ASHA workers, and local villagers, whose cooperation ensured the success of the programme. Residents also appreciated the initiative and expressed the hope that similar awareness and health camps would be conducted regularly in the village.
