MARGAO
As one of the two Goan deportees from the US who returned home on Sunday happens to be from his constituency, Velim MLA Cruz Silva has urged the government to work out a solution to the issue of immigration to the US, expressing fears that the return of a large number of youth will further worsen the unemployment situation in Goa.
He told the media that Goan youth try to make it to the US, the land of opportunities, to eke out a living and support their families due to a lack of employment opportunities back home. “To realise their dreams, many try to enter the US illegally through agents since immigration laws do not allow easy entry into America,” he said.
He added: “When immigration formalities are lengthy and cumbersome, youth take risks by trying to enter America through agents. This is not an issue affecting only Goan youth but the entire country.”
Saying that the youth deported from his Velim constituency hails from a good family, Cruz said the youngster tried to enter America to eke out a living.
