A meeting of Romi script lovers held here on Sunday has adopted a resolution to persuade the MLAs to lay the Official Language Amendment Bill in the next budget session of the Assembly, to give equal status for Roman script Konkani along with Devanagiri.
The meeting called by Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan, at the Holy Spirit Church hall to discuss the way forward for the Roman script movement has further resolved to lead a sustained battle for inclusion of Roman script Konkani into schools as per National Education policy.
It was further decided to take up with the MLAs to pass the Goa State Minorities Commission in the next Assembly.
A decision was also taken to hold a Maha Sabha in Goa with participation of all members of the associations of all the five scripts. It was also resolved to demand that the government conduct examination for government jobs in both Devanagiri and Roman script.
A host of suggestions were made by the participants at the meeting.
President of Global Romi Lilp Abhiyan, Kennedy Afonso stressed on the need to unite all Konkani associations together, and the formation of village committees in order to take the movement to the next level.
Anthony Silva stressed that importance must be given to introduce Romi Konkani into schools, and that Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan should lead a sustained battle on this issue.
Wilson Mazarello said that it’s important that all MLAs should lay the Official Language Amendment Bill in the next Assembly, to give justice to Romi script.
Michael Gracias, said that the government must pass the Bill to form the Goa State Minorities Commission in the next Assembly session.
