The forest department reimbursed an amount of Rs 85,000 towards the medical expenses of a woman who was attacked by a wild boar while working in a paddy field at Poinguinim four months ago.
According to sources, DFO Harsh Gadte handed over a cheque for Rs 85,000 to Jayanti Velip in the presence of RFO (Forests“Territorial), Canacona Anant Velip and others at the Canacona Forest Office.
Jayanti Velip, a resident of Gulem in Shristhal panchayat, was working in the field of one Laxman Prabhugaonkar at Welwada-Poinguinim during the Rabi cultivation, when she was attacked by a wild boar on February 4.
She sustained injuries to both hands and injuries on other parts of her body.
The farm owner later lodged a complaint with the forest department for the attack by wild boar on the woman working in his field. He sought compensation and reimbursement of the medical and other expenses and losses incurred and suffered by the injured women.
Forest department reportedly evaluated the medical expenses and the daily wage losses suffered due to the wild boar attack on the woman, and accordingly compensated Velip for the medical expenses.
