SANGUEM
Members of Sanguem Bachao Andolan (SBA) have criticised the Sanguem Deputy Collector for denying them permission to conduct a peaceful rally from Cotarli-Sanguem to the Sanguem Bus Stand on Independence Day to highlight social and environmental issues.
The application for permission to conduct the rally was made in the name of Pedro Cruz of Dando-Sanguem.
Acting on a negative report issued by Sanguem Police, the Sanguem Deputy Collector reportedly denied permission, and the organisers claimed it was an attempt to silence the critics.
Sources informed that the application was reportedly rejected as Pedro Cruz is one of the main agitators opposing the IIT project at Sanguem.
The application by Pedro Cruz had stated that the rally would commence at Cotarli and culminate at Sanguem Bus Stand, where it was supposed to be addressed by personalities on social and environmental issues.
The SBA claimed the rally had nothing to do with IIT but was only planned to create awareness among the general public on issues concerning them.
The SBA said it had even obtained sound permission from the Sanguem Municipal Council.
