MARGAO
Even as the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party have sent positive signals on the need for opposition unity to take on the BJP, AAP's organizing secretary and party’s 2022 candidate Prashant Naik on Sunday said it is certain that Aam Aadmi Party's candidate will be in the fray in Cuncolim, the constituency represented by Leader of Opposition, Yuri Alemao.
Referring to the meeting held in Cuncolim under the title Swabhiman Kunkolkar, in which there was a discussion on giving recognition to the candidate of Cuncolim, Naik said that AAP’s candidate for the Cuncolim constituency will be from Cuncolim.
While saying he will not be in the fray for the 2027 Assembly election, Naik said the Party will name its candidate for Cuncolim at the right time.
“AAP is ready to fight against BJP. As Congress has called for the BJP opponents to come together, we are participating in the anti-BJP fight. But if you look at the current politics of Cuncolim, it is seen that it is Congress against Congress”, he said.
Referring to the decision at the Cuncolim meeting wherein citizens decided to field former AAP Convenor Elvis Gomes as the candidate, Naik said it is still not clear on which symbol Gomes will contest the election.
“Although Cuncolim Constituency currently belongs to Congress, the seat was also won earlier by the UGDP and BJP. It is wrong for anyone to maintain their claim on this constituency, he said, adding that the Aam Aadmi Party has sent two names to the Central Election Committee in respect of Cuncolim.
