Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo on Saturday kick-started development work in her constituency by laying the foundation stone for improvement and reconstruction of the existing link road from Siolim-Marna to Siolim-Sodiem which is costing around Rs 4.81 crore.
Lobo also said that work on underground cabling of high tension (HT) lines for Siolim-Marna village will be inaugurated on November 14 while work on repairing the toilet block near the Siolim-Marna market will also be taken up by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC).
“During the election campaign, the biggest demand of the locals was re-construction of the link road. We have taken up the work today for which I thank Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, PWD Minister, Nilesh Cabral and all other officials in the department,” Lobo said.
She said the link road was constructed on cemented pipes which are choked with mud and therefore the water could not pass through leading to flooding of the area during the rains.
She said the biggest problem was faced by the local farmers who could not cultivate the fields due to retention of water in the area.
“The current (link) road is full of potholes and is very dangerous. We will construct a beautiful road with a footpath on one side,” she said.
While the project has been scheduled to be completed by October next year, the contractor has promised to complete the project within six months.
The current link road will be closed for traffic while the work on the project is going on.
The Siolim MLA also said that work of underground cabling of Siolim-Marna area will be started on November 14.
“The problem of power fluctuation will reduce when work on underground cabling of HT lines is completed,” she said.
She also said that repair work of the toilet block near the Siolim-Marna market will also be taken up very soon.
“We have written to the GSIDC which will take up the toilet repair work. The women vendors who do business in the market have been suffering the most due to lack of toilet facilities in the area. We will take up the toilet repair work very soon,” she said.
