MARGAO
The President of United Goans Democratic Party has castigated the Goa DGP Mukesh Kumar Meena on his unwarranted, uncalled and unprofessional comments on the controversial projects being undertaken by the Goa Government headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at the behest of the Central Government alleging that the projects are for Nation’s development.
Party President Dr Jorson Fernandes has lashed out at the DGP for supporting the expansion of the national highway and double-tracking as reported in today’s newspaper at his second press conference reiterating as if he is the spokesman of the governments, unless he has a nexus with the politicians ruling both at the State as well as Delhi.
“Any project should be for the benefit of the people who are supreme in a democratic set-up. The DGP has no authority or power to make any statement on the projects, even if they are personal. He is duty-bound to listen and follow the orders of the Government. He is not part of the Government. There are three wings - legislature, executive and judiciary. At this rate, he has taken the power of the judiciary to decide himself whether the projects are in national interest and casting aspersions as to why people are agitating in a peaceful manner which is the core of democracy. He has no scope for making personal comments,” stressed Dr Jorson.
He added: “As per the service rules, the DGP can’t give personal opinions or statements to the press ln the manner in which he gave a positive verdict on the projects as if he was a part or perhaps would be part of the powers that be in future after his retirement. He surprisingly justified the procedure adopted by the governments in deciding the projects in an attempt to convince people that the projects will not prove destructive to the State. ln short, Goans have been made to look like fools or idiots by the Delhiwalla, since now Goa has become a colony of Delhi,” reasoned out Dr Jorson.
He said the DGP’s utterances have crossed the professional limits of a top cop, whose main job and responsibility is to maintain law and order, which is deteriorating day by day. Just to quote what Dr Oscar Rebello wrote recently in a blog - My jaw just drops resignedly as I witness the sheer mayhem and madness playing out on Panaji streets in the dead of the night. Bikes zipping, tourists in a drunken ataxia, whores strutting, vehicles parked like heaps of dungs, the acrid smell of smoke and drugs permeating the air (or perhaps it’s untreated sewage disgorged into the Mandovi), casinos packed and smiling with their poker faces.
