Director General of Police Mukesh Kumar Meena has said the expertise from the National Forensic Science University would help Goa Police in investigations.
“At present, Goa Police has to send many samples to forensic science laboratories outside the State for tests and analysis. Goa doesn’t have DNA fingerprinting facilities in the State,” said DGP Meena, while speaking to media persons.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday had laid the foundation stone for the National Forensic Science University at Dharbandora. The State government has announced that five courses accommodating 200 students would soon be started in the university.
Besides, this university is likely to conduct courses pertaining to coastal policing and drugs and narcotics.
Commenting on the increase in narcotics seizures in the State, DGP Meena said the Goa Police has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards crimes related to drugs, adding that a higher number of drugs-related cases is surfacing due to higher detection rates
There have been a number of raids by the Narcotics Control Bureau and local police stations in a bid to crack down on narcotics in the State.
