The Director General of Police and all subordinate officers and personnel of the Goa police functioning in assembly constituencies have been put under the control and superintendence of the Election Commission of India.
Goa's Chief Secretary has issued a specific notification in this regard under the provisions of the Representation of People's Act, 1951.
Officers and personnel of Central police forces which are deployed in the State for the specific election purpose will also be under the control of the ECI.
In exercise of powers conferred by Section 28 A of the Representation of People Act, 1951, "The Government of Goa hereby designates the Director General of Police and all Police Personnel functioning in the Assembly Constituencies of North Goa District and South Goa District of Goa State, including the Officers and Personnel of Central Police Forces deployed for Election in the State, as ‘Designated Officers’ for the purpose of Section 28 A of the Representation of People Act, 1951 till the completion of the Election process," states the notification issued on Saturday hours after the ECI announced the schedule of the general election to the Goa Legislative Assembly.
"All such officers shall be subject to the control, superintendence and discipline of the Election Commission of India, New Delhi," the notification adds.
