The President of the All Goa Dhangar Samaj has expressed hope that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will help secure Scheduled Tribes (ST) status for the Dhangar community.

Speaking to the media at a programme in Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, President Chandrakant Kavlekar shared that talathis, under the guidance of district Collectors, are conducting a survey of the Dhangar community. “Recently, Dhangar representatives from all 12 talukas met with the Chief Minister to discuss the long-pending issue of granting the community ST status. We are hopeful that the Chief Minister will take this matter to the Registrar General of India and ensure justice for the Dhangars,” Kavlekar said.

He clarified that the Dhangar Samaj is not seeking inclusion in the ST list for political reservations. “We have been fighting for the inclusion of Dhangars in the ST category for years, and this is not about political reservations,” he explained.

Kavlekar added that the community has not set a deadline for the BJP government in Goa to resolve the issue, as it is within the jurisdiction of the Registrar General of India.

“We are confident that the Chief Minister will continue to pursue our case with the RGI,” he concluded.
