Optimistic that the government will fulfill its demand on Monday, the Dharbandora Taluka Truck Association (DTTA) has reiterated that it will not allow mining transportation unless its demands are met.
Sanvordem MLA Deepak Pawaskar has assured the truckers that their demands will be fulfilled by government.
The DTTA on Sunday convened a meeting of truckers at Codli-Tisk to discuss their demand of rate hike. MLA Pawaskar, DTTA president Vinayak alias Balaji Gauns, Ramakant Gaonkar, Jitendra Naik, Mohan Gaonkar, Yogesh Bandodkar and Maschindra Desai were among those present.
It may be recalled that DTTA had earlier demanded an increase in transportation rate to Rs 14-15 per tonne per km for fresh and auctioned ore and a reduced rate for diesel at Rs 52.
Presently, the truckers get Rs 14 per tonne per km for auctioned ore and diesel rate is Rs 58.85. They have been also assured Rs 10.39 for fresh ore per tonne per km and same diesel rate.
Pawaskar said Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is aware of the problems faced by the truckers and has assured help.
"Meeting with the chief minister and other officials concerned on Monday will definitely help the truckers. We have tried to convince the chief minister on several issues and we are optimistic that our demand will be fulfilled," Pawaskar said.
Sources informed that DTTA has discussed the issue of fees towards Global Positioning System and road tax to be paid annually.
DTTA had demanded that the government give them relief by allowing to pay GPS charges monthly and road tax quarterly.
Addressing the gathering, Balaji Gauns appealed for unity. "Only by remaining united we can get our demands fulfilled. Let us not start transportation till our demands
are met."
