The Jaidev Mody promoted Delta Corp Ltd proposal to set up a nano clone of Disneyland close to the upcoming greenfield international airport at Mopa has progressed to a higher level.
The State government has issued a ‘proclamation’ intending to give complete jurisdiction over a 3.76 lakh square meters area in Dhargalim to the State’s Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board (IPFB).
The proposed Delta Corp Ltd project intends to set up an integrated resort in Dhargalim replete with three hotels, convention centre, multiplex, casino, water park and children’s entertainment area.
Objections to the proposal to give IPFB jurisdiction over the area have been invited from citizens. The objections have to reach the Director of Industries within 30 days.
The proposal is envisioned in an area encompassing some 3.76 lakh square meters in Dhargalim, according to the proclamation published in the official gazette by Under Secretary (Industries) Amalia Pinto.
The proposal is part of the futuristic expansion plans of Delta Corp, a listed company which is the biggest player in Goa’s controversial off-shore casino business and was moved way back in December 2019, clearly aimed at taking advantage of the upcoming greenfield international airport
at Mopa.
It got in-principal approval of the IPB in December last year and is vaguely linked to a move on the State government’s radar to create a gaming zone in Pernem where a shift of all Casino gaming operations are planned.
Meanwhile, IPB will take primacy over all other authorities and government agencies in administering the proclaimed area.
IPB’s Chief Executive Officer will exercise authority and all powers to levy and collect taxes, fees and other dues in respect of local authorities which are in force.
House tax, other taxes, fees and all other types of dues so collected by IPB’s CEO, however, are to be deposited in the government treasury immediately which eventually will be transferred to the local body (panchayat) just as the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) does in the case of the several industrial estates.
