The closure of the Dhauji railway crossing due to work on the overbridge led to traffic jams along the Banastarim to Old Goa highway road since Monday morning, as the traffic was diverted that side.
Traffic jams were also witnessed along the Cumbarjua-Corlim road as motorists took that road too due to the closure of the Dhauji railway crossing.
Huge queues of vehicles were seen on both the routes due to the sudden increase in traffic.
Many motorists were caught unawares after the closure of the Dhauji railway crossing and had to return and take the Banastarim road.
As the situation got worse, MLA Rajesh Faldessai intervened and assured that the Dhauji railway crossing will be open for traffic in the peak hours of morning and evening.
“The crossing will be kept open for traffic in the peak hours from 8 am to 10 am and from 5 pm to 9 pm,” Faldessai told The Goan.
"I have issued directions in this regards and the contractor can start working from 10 am to 5 pm and during the night time," Faldessai added but said that the work on the overbridge could get delayed by a month or two.
"But we will try to ensure that the overbridge gets completed, as promised, by end of this year," he added.
