Dhavalikar bros have sold MGP to Cong: CM

PONDA

Barely a week after singing praises of MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar and describing him a leader with vision, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Dhavalikar brothers, claiming that MGP’s support to the Congress in Lok Sabha election had proved that they sold the oldest regional party to the national party.

Dr Sawant was addressing a campaign meeting of the Shiroda BJP candidate Subhash Shirodkar at Borim, in the presence of BJP State President Vinay Tendulkar and others.

On April 3, Sudin Dhavalikar had received a pat on the back from Dr  Sawant as he showered praises on the former deputy chief minister for his decision not to withdraw support to the coalition government and also not to field candidates in the ensuing by-polls.

“The MGP was founded by Bhausaheb Bandodkar and now it seems this party is sold by Dhavalikar company (brothers) to the Congress,” said Dr Sawant.

“The MGP had never supported the Congress, but now they have done this for self gains. With this new development, the Congress along with this regional party will also lose its existence in the State.”

“There are chances that the Congress will support MGP at the Shiroda by-poll. Don’t be surprised if the Congress starts advertising that they are supporting a particular candidate in Shiroda. But I am sure that people of Shiroda will vote wisely and give a victory to Shirodkar,” said the chief minister.

He said loyal MGP workers would not support Congress as they have never done it in the history of Goan politics.

After earlier stating that Sudin was dropped from his Cabinet to accommodate a   member of the break-away MGP group, the chief minister now stated that Sudin Dhavalikar had been removed from the cabinet for his faults.

“We never wanted to remove him, but he worked against coalition dharma,” said Dr Sawant.

Sources informed that Dr Sawant had met many individuals seeking their support for Shirodkar.
