PONDA

Discussions about the chief ministerial role for PWD Minister and MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar dominated the MGP foundation day event at Farmagudi on Saturday, in light of the current political situation on account of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s ill-health and his treatment in the USA.

While Dhavalikar flatly dismissed reports of leaving his party to become chief minister, the MGP also made it clear that apart from Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, the MGP would only support Sudin Dhavalikar as its leader and added that Dhavalikar could have been the chief minister had six MGP MLAs been elected to power.

The MGP foundation day programme at Farmagudi was attended by Sudin Dhavalikar, MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar, Sanvordem MLA Deepak Pawaskar, former MLAs Naresh Sawal, Lavu Mamledar and Rohidas Naik, senior leaders Adv. Narayan Sawant, Gajanan Naik, Ratnakar Mardolkar, Apa Teli and others.

An estimated 1,500 supporters of MGP were present on the occasion.

“Someone asked me whether I am leaving this party to become CM. I had offers to become chief minister by leaving MGP in the past, but I rejected them. The MGP is of the Bahujan Samaj and I will not leave it.” Dhavalikar said.

“We should have the vision to elect good candidates. We should focus on getting 21 seats from the present three,” Dhavalikar said.

“Let us make our party strong. We should show people that this party has a future. Let us unite,” Dhavalikar added.

MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar asserted that apart from Parrikar, the MGP would only support Sudin Dhavalikar as its leader.

Stating that MGP’s vote share had increased, Deepak Dhavalikar said: “In the 2007 assembly, the MGP fought independently and gained 7 per cent vote share and in 2017 it rose to 13 percent votes.”

“The MGP is a 55-year-old party and we changed the constitution three years ago by giving more rights to booth committees,” he added.

Naresh Sawal said an administrative and financial crisis in the State was of serious concern.
