Diamond jubilee of ‘Amchem Noxib’ to be marked in Porvorim

The Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr (TSKK) at Porvorim will celebrate the diamond jubilee of the iconic Konknni film ‘Amchem Noxib’ at a function on June 15 at 3.30 pm.
Addressing media persons, TSKK Director Dr Pandurang Phaldessai said ‘Amchem Noxib’ (1963) was the first Konkani film of the post-liberation period and it was produced by Frank Fernand and directed by A. Salam.
“The cast included a band of young contemporary actors such as C Alvares, Rita Lobo, Ophelia, M Boyer, Kid Boxer, Souza Ferrao, Antonette Mendes, Alfred Rose, Remie Colaso, Cyriaco Dias, Master Vaz, Star of Arosim, Philomena Braz, Rico Rod, Titta Pretto and Leena Vaz.
“While most actors in the film have expired, the actor Ciriaco Dias will be felicitated by former assembly speaker and noted Tiatrist Tomazinho Cardozo at the TSKK on June 15 at 3.30 pm,” said Dr Phaldessai.
He added that Dr Minakshi Martins, Rajendra Talak, Michael Gracias, Irene Cardozo and Dr Nandkumar Kamat will speak on various aspects of this film.
Besides, some songs from Amchem Noxib’ will be screened, while an exhibition of CDs of a few Konkani films, Konkani songs and other material will be displayed on this occasion, said Dr Phaldessai.
TSKK Coordinator Fr Jose Silveira said ‘Amchem Noxib’ was a trendsetter for the fledgling Konkani cinema.
“Memorable music was provided by the producer Frank Fernand and many of the songs are still very popular among Konkani lovers,” said Fr Silveira.
