Differences in camp over civic polls will be sorted: BJP chief

MARGAO
Saying that the party cadre, as well as new entrants in the party, play an equal role in the task of building the party, BJP state chief Sadanand Shet Tanavade said whatever differences that have surfaced in the ruling camp over the municipal polls will be sorted out soon.

Tanavade further asserted that BJP will sweep the municipal polls, including the CCP elections, irrespective of the High Court verdict and the outcome of the appeal in the Supreme Court.

After welcoming former Cuncolim Youth Congress leader, Haroon Sheikh to the BJP in the presence of Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias, Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, former MP Narendra Sawaikar and Rupesh Mahatme, Tanavade said BJP does not discriminate between the cadre and newcomers in the party.

Replying to a query from the media on the disquiet in the ruling party, especially in Panjim with senior leaders openly expressing their resentment over Panjim MLA Antanasio Monserrate having his way in the CCP polls, Tanavade said: “There may be some grievances here and there, which will be sorted out soon. All I can say that whatever grievances have been voiced will be addressed amongst the party leaders”.

When questioned whether the party is facing the problem of adjusting between the claims of the cadre and the aspirations of the newcomers, Tanvade made it clear that the party does not distinguish between the cadre and the new entrants in the party fora. “Both the party cadre and the new entrants enjoy an equal role in building the party. There’s no unrest amongst the cadre. But, we should understand that a party cannot grow with the cadre only,” he said.

Refusing to accept there’s any indiscipline in the party under his leadership, Tanavade said the party is on the job to address the sentiments of the people, saying that the party will go by the rule book if the efforts of patch up fail.

He parried questions on the controversy surrounding the Ward reservations, that the party is not involved in carrying out the reservations. “Digambar Kamat knows about this reality. But, some people dream and they keep dreaming. They are raking up controversies to divert the public mind. But the BJP will sweep the ensuing municipal polls like the Zilla Panchayat polls. The court ruling will in no way affect the BJP in the election,” he added.
