Stating that reservation of wards was done with a selfish motive, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday said the BJP-led government should have respected the High Court order and corrected the errors in the reservation process.

The NCP also demanded the removal of the State Election Commissioner for acting in a partisan manner.

“The government has done a grave error. Instead of accepting the High Court decision, the government has challenged the decision on the reservation in the Supreme Court by using taxpayer’s money. We are sure the SC will rule in people’s favour,” said Sanjay Barde, General Secretary of NCP.

The NCP General Secretary was addressing the media after handing a memorandum to the Deputy Collector Kapil Phadte against the continuous rise in petrol and LPG cylinders.

Speaking further, Barde alleged that Urban Development Minister Milind Naik was responsible for the confusion in the reservation process.

“Instead of following the constitutional process, the State Election Commissioner bowed down to the dictates of the State government,” he said.

The NCP general secretary said the rise in prices of petrol and LPG cylinders impacted the poor the most, but the BJP-led government at the Centre and the State were not concerned of the common man.
