INDI Alliance, BJP intensify battle; RGP pushed to distant third
CANACONA
They may have adopted different strategies in a bid to woo the electorate, but the campaign has been intense and fierce for the INDIA bloc and BJP in the State’s southernmost constituency of Canacona, leaving the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) way behind in campaign race.
While Congress leaders along with their INDI Alliance partners have been on a person-to-person contact spree all over Canacona constituency, BJP and its top leaders have been on holding corner meetings while banked on their booth-level leaders and karyakartas to be in personal contact with the electorate.
CONGRESS STRATEGY
The biggest surprise for the Congress has been to unite party leaders and rival candidates in favour of South Goa candidate Capt Viriato Fernandes
These leaders from Canacona have come together and are moving around as a well-oiled machine to distribute the Congress manifesto in the constituency.
Beginning Monday, leaders and their supporters from the 2022 assembly polls – Congress leader Janardhan Bhandari, TMC leader Mahadev Dessai, and activists of at least two main independent candidates – joined the INDIA bloc and moved around distributing and explaining the Congress manifesto to the electorate of Palolem and around.
Canacona Congress Block president Abel Borges, South Goa (Congress) General Secretary Gaspar Coutinho, Canacona Congress Block Mahila President Ursula Costa, and several others were seen explaining about the INDIA bloc and its promises to the people, women and youth when comes to power.
Led by Canacona INDIA campaign incharge Gaspar Coutinho, Abel Borges, Janardhan Bhandari, and Goa Forward Party Environment Cell chief and INDIA spokesperson Vikas Bhagat also held a series of corner meetings at Loliem, Gaondongrim, Khotigao, besides meeting local and community leaders seeking votes for Capt Viriato.
BJP STRATEGY
While Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar has mainly been campaigning for the BJP at the State level, he has not left anything to any chance and has been chairing corner meetings, especially in some important and vulnerable areas in the constituency.
BJP’s campaign in Canacona is mainly being handled by its Block President Vishal Dessai. Dessai, along with the active involvement of Mahesh Naik, and other local leaders and karyakartas.
The karyakartas and booth-level leaders are regularly in contact with the electorate, and it is learnt that each of the booth leaders have been given the responsibility of a certain number of voters in the particular area.
RGP STRATEGY
RGP workers had conducted a door-to-door campaign in many places across Canacona, including Agonda, Khotigao and Gaondongrim, even before the INDIA bloc and BJP had announced their candidates.
However, the RGP’s campaign has not been as intensive and extensive as the Congress and the BJP.
