Digambar’s Malbhat residence wears a deserted look as ‘politics’ picks up pace

Digambar’s Malbhat residence wears a deserted look as ‘politics’ picks up pace

MARGAO
It was Sunday afternoon. The road leading to the office-cum-residence of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat at Malbhat literally wore a deserted look.

Even as a political storm was brewing in the State, there was absolutely no movement whatsoever, either on the road, or at Kamat’s office located on the ground floor of the building, adjoining the Jama Masjid, leaving local residents and observers to wonder over the speculations doing the rounds in political circles over the imminent defection of the Congress MLAs led by Kamat into the BJP.

For a moment, residents as well as observers may have been right in their assessment since no activity was witnessed at Kamat’s Malbhat office-cum-residence.

Around a kilometre and half away at Aquem, however, one could see a flurry of political activity. The seven-time Margao MLA was holed up at his bungalow at Aquem instead of Malbhat and was apparently monitoring the unfolding developments in the Congress camp.

This became apparent when Congress MLAs led by Leader of the Opposition Michael Lobo, Sankalp Amonkar, Rajesh Faldesai along with GPCC chief Amit Patkar headed to his bungalow at Aquem in the afternoon. The MLAs went into a huddle with Kamat inside the bungalow for quite some time, indicating that Aquem instead of Malbhat was the centre of the latest political activity on Sunday.
