MARGAO
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat finally descended at the Pedda railway tracks to take a close look at the stinking environment created by a trench dug up by the Konkan Railway Corporation some months ago.
Accompanied by officials of the Konkan Railway and Margao Municipal Council, besides councillor Doris Texeira, the Margao MLA underlined the need to cap the problem at the earliest to avoid the outbreak of an epidemic in the area.
After inspecting the spot opposite La Flor hotel, the MLA told The Goan that a solution to the problem will be found in coordination between the Konkan Railway and WRD officials. “The KR officials have maintained that they were forced to dig the trench to drain out the waste water as the water was not following to the Khareband side of the railway tracks because of issue of gradient of the storm water nullah,” he said.
The Margao MLA said since the WRD will take up the work of desilting the storm water nullah on the Khareband side of the tracks with a provision for constructing a retaining wall, the issue of nuisance is expected to be resolved in the immediate future.
Margao Municipal ward councillor Doris Texeira explained to the MLA how the digging of the trench has only aggravated the problem, which if not addressed on the war footing, will spread the stink along the entire area between La Flor hotel to the Cine Lata residential colony.
