Digambar: I solved water woes

The ruling BJP and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat appear to be jostling to claim credit for the restoration of water supply for the water-starved residents of Calconda, Chinchal, Sirvodem, Khareband and Pedda “ all areas in the Margao municipal area.

If BJP-backed councillor Ketan Kurtarkar had last week virtually claimed credit for providing 24 hours water supply to the residents of these areas, six-time Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Wednesday told the media that water supply stands restored for the residents of these area after his intervention. “I am not here to claim credit. It is not my nature to claim credit for the works completed. I had taken up the water woes of the people of Calconda, Chincal, Sirvodem, Khareband and Pedda as a member of the Legislative Assembly representing Margao. I am not bothered if some people have tried to take credit for the water restoration,” he said.
Kamat told the media that the PWD had got down to the work of strengthening water supply to these areas after a meeting convened by him to resolve the water woes.
“Today, I along with ward councillors Manoj Masurkar and MMC vice-chairperson Doris Texeira visited the areas and found to our satisfaction that the residents have started receiving water supply. The water supply will improve further once the pressure is increased by the PWD,” he said.
Last week, BJP-backed councillor Ketan Kurtarkar has said the PWD has restored water supply after he made a petition to PWD, questioning the inadequate water supply received by the beleaguered residents for more than two years.
