MARGAO
Saying he is a firm believer in Lord Damodar (Dambab) and Nagueshi, Congress-turned-BJP Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on Sunday said he has left it to the Almighty to decide on the question of his induction in the Pramod Sawant Cabinet.
The seven-time Margao MLA also made a big announcement to go full-fledged in his constituency from April 1, beginning with the Margao Municipality to make the civic body a ‘model municipality’ in the State.
He also took a dig at his critics, saying the people of Margao will reply to the accusations and allegations levelled against him. Kamat also took the platform to convey to his ardent workers and supporters that he is standing today because of their love and support.
The former Chief Minister, who celebrated his birthday on Saturday, cut a birthday cake at a small get-together organised by his supporters and well-wishers, led by Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar, councillors and citizens after returning from Delhi on Sunday.
Referring to the remark made by a city BJP leader praying to Lord Dambab that he may soon find a place in the government, Kamat reminded that he is a firm believer in Nagueshi and Dambab. “I only believe in them. They had bestowed on him the positions in the past and I am confident the Almighty will give me what is in my destiny. I have faith in them,” he said.
Kamat, however, hastened to add that position is not material to him since he is not lagging in ushering development in his Margao constituency. “For me, position is not any issue. My works are continuing in Margao. I was in the Opposition for five years between 1994 and 2000. I had only two councillors then in the Margao Municipality. Today, I am in the ruling party. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has never said no to development works in Margao. I will get what I am destined,” he said.
Margao MLA to kick-start civic polls campaign from April 1
MARGAO: With just a year to go for the civic polls, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat will virtually kick-start his campaign for the 2026 Municipal polls from April 1, promising to mete out justice to the people and to make Margao Municipality a model municipality in Goa.
He also sent a veiled warning to the babus that those who block good governance will face the music.
Taking the platform of his birthday celebrations on Sunday, Kamat said he would go full-fledged from April 1 to work for the people of Margao and give justice to them. “People of Margao should not be put to hardships and make trips to the Municipal building. Those who block good governance will face the music,” he warned.
Citing the example of the Uttar Pradesh government working for the poor and downtrodden, Kamat said people coming out of the Municipal building should talk good about the civic body.
“I want to assure the people of Margao there will be good governance. We will start from the Margao Municipality,” he said, adding that people will give a befitting reply to the critics.
