MARGAO
Asserting that the Congress has a proven track record for working in the interest of Goa and Goans over the years, All India Congress Committee (AICC) Goa desk in-charge, Dinesh Gundu Rao on Monday has hit out at the entry of new political parties in the State with an eye on the 2022 Assembly polls.
He also slammed the ruling BJP over its jumla politics, saying the people of Goa are just waiting for the elections to kick out the government.
Dinesh Gundu Rao was in Cuncolim to participate in the Margayecho Jagor progamme in the presence of party observer Sunil, party working president Aleixo Sequeira, former Minister Joaquim Alemao, Yuri Alemao, Cuncolim Municipal Chairperson Laximan Naik, district president Joe Dias, Mahila Congress chief Beena Naik, besides block President Assis Noronha on Monday.
He promised the people of Cuncolim that the Congress, when it returns to power in 2022 will reduce the prices of fuel, including petrol and diesel, besides the prices of essential commodities.
Taking a dig at the entry of new political players in the State, Dinesh Rao said, “These new parties are just coming into the State with an eye on the coming election. They will go back after the polls, but the Congress party is here to stay since it is rooted with the people of Goa.”
Congress working president Aleixo Sequeira demanded to know whether Cuncolim has witnessed any development since the last 10 years when the BJP had come to power in 2012. “Let anyone tell me whether the constituency has witnessed any infrastructural development in the last 10 years after the exit of Joaquim Alemao,” he said.
Joaquim Alemao in his address made a fervent plea to the people of Cuncolim to rally behind the Congress to usher in the development of the constituency. “The development ushered by me during my two-term stint as MLA is before the people of Cuncolim. Only the Congress can usher in the development,” he said.
Earlier in the day, the Cuncolim Block Congress started a door-to-door awareness campaign in a massive way to protest against the price rise of essentials and mismanagement of administration of the BJP government, in the presence of GPCC Vice President Altinho Gomes, Block President Assiz Noronha, Youth President Saikunj Dessai, Mahila Morcha President Sonia Fernandes, Sabita Mascarenhas, Cuncolim Congress leader Yuri Alemao, CMC chairperson Dr Laximan Naik, other CMC councillors and other Congress workers and supporters.
Gomes defends remaining absent for Cuncolim prog, says was not informed
MARGAO: Even as senior Congress leaders in Cuncolim joined in to participate in the Margayecho Jagor, local leader Elvis Gomes was conspicuous by his absence at the programme.
Elvis, who had led the Margayecho Jagor in neighbouring constituency of Velim on Sunday, was conspicuous by his absence at the programme in his home constituency Cuncolim on Monday. Most of his supporters too were conspicuous by his absence, throwing up questions on the absence of the bureaucrat-turned-politician at the programme.
When contacted, Elvis said he was not intimated nor invited by the Cuncolim Congress Block for the Margayecho Jagor programme. He further said that State party leaders did not also inform him about the programme. “I have no idea why I was not informed or invited by the Cuncolim block committee,” he said.
