As owners refused to dismantle their stalls of the Old Goa feast fair even after five days from the deadline of December 4, the Se-Old Goa panchayat authorities moved into action and began dismantling some stalls on Thursday.
The authorities brought in a JCB machine and began dismantling the stalls to convey the message that they meant business. After the action by the panchayat, the allottees starting dismantling the stalls on their own and by evening, a majority of the stalls were dismantled.
Speaking to The Goan, Old Goa Sarpanch Janita Madkaikar said the panchayat has been consistently asking the allottees to dismantle their stalls as the last date of the fair was on December 4.
“We can understand the extension of the fair for a couple of days. But it has been five days since the deadline of December 4 has passed but the stall allottees continue to do business despite the panchayat telling them to dismantle their stalls,” Madkaikar stated.
Panch Vishwas Kuttikar informed that they have been continuously requesting the allottees to dismantle the stalls but they ignored them.
“So, we did not have any option but take stern action,” Kuttikar added.
