The United Goans Foundation has called for the urgent intervention of South Goa district Collector into the negligence in design and maintenance of public road at Navelim bypass intersection, leading to serious concerns about safety of human lives.
In a petition submitted to the district Collector, the city-based NGO has pointed out that recurring accidents has put to risk public life, due to the faulty planning and maintenance of the old Navelim NH and New Calvaddo bypass near Furtado petrol pump.
The NGO has blamed the dereliction of duties by PWD Highway Division in maintenance, signage and planning of bypass.
Saying that accidents are taking place at the junction on a daily basis, the NGO said it should be noted that the festive season is soon approaching, which will lead to increased vehicular traffic and movement on that particular road. “That the road stretch at the mentioned intersection has been left unattended and in travel hazard condition for months, without proper illumination and haphazard design which has resulted in accidents and also deaths,” the petition stated.
