Dismissal appeal: HC notices for govt, cops

PANAJI

The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday issued notices to the State government and the Goa police on an appeal filed by dismissed Village Panchayat Secretary Raghuvir Bagkar and former Arpora-Nagoa Sarpanch Roshan Redkar in connection with the Birch by Romeo Lane fire incident. The matter has been adjourned to Friday.

The two had approached the High Court a day earlier, challenging a Mapusa court order that rejected their applications for anticipatory bail in the case.

Following a magisterial inquiry that flagged serious lapses, the State government dismissed Bagkar from service, holding him responsible for grave dereliction of duty that allegedly facilitated the illegal operation of the establishment where the fire broke out.

In a separate order, the government disqualified Redkar with immediate effect, citing misuse and abuse of power in relation to the same incident.
