A 43-year-old man from Assam has been arrested for allegedly murdering a fellow porter after a dispute over food at Bodgininim in Mapusa.

According to Mapusa police, the accused, Sawangkhoba Chaoba Singh, and the victim, yet to be identified, worked as porters and were living on the streets.

On March 27, Singh, the victim, and another person had gathered in a field for dinner along with alcohol. During the meal, Singh noticed that his plate had less chicken, which led to an argument. The dispute soon turned violent, with Singh breaking a beer bottle and attacking the victim.

He struck the victim on the ear and face, reportedly severing one ear. Singh and the third person then fled, leaving the injured man behind.

The victim attempted to seek help but collapsed and died due to heavy bleeding. The incident came to light the next day. Police later tracked down Singh in Mapusa and arrested him after a brief chase.
