A road safety inspection was conducted at the Merces Junction by the District Road Safety Committee, focusing on safety concerns and non-functional AI surveillance cameras.

GOACAN Coordinator Roland Martins, along with officials from the Tourism Department, Transport Department, and Traffic Cell, inspected the junction on Tuesday.

During the inspection, Martins raised concerns over unfinished digging work at the site, questioning the lack of transparency. “Nobody knows why the portion is being dug or for what purpose. The public has the right to know,” he said, pointing out the absence of proper signage explaining the ongoing work.

He also stressed the need for emergency contact information to be displayed prominently at the junction. “During the monsoon, if a pipe bursts or water starts flowing from the flyover, people do not know whom to contact. Emergency contact numbers of the concerned departments should be displayed on every pillar,” Martins said.

He called for a crackdown on casino hoardings in the area, stating that they should be removed in the interest of road safety.

Martins further urged authorities for their feedback and suggestions to improve safety measures and effectively address such issues at the junction.
