A delegation of State tribal leaders led by Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar called on Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal in New Delhi, to follow up on their earlier representation regarding early commencement of ‘The Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Act, 2025.’

The delegation included Chairperson of the Goa Commission for SC/ST Ravindra Gaonkar, former minister Prakash Velip, Rajendra Borkar, and Ravindra Velip.

During the meeting, the delegation reiterated the urgency of notifying the appointed date under the Act, enabling its implementation before the forthcoming Goa Legislative Assembly Elections 2027, thereby ensuring due political representation to Scheduled Tribes in the State.

Taking cognisance of the matter, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal directed the delegation to further engage with officials concerned in the Ministry of Law and Justice for detailed discussions.

Subsequently, the delegation met the Law Secretary Dr Mani, and discussed the procedural aspects involved in notifying the Act. The Law Secretary assured the delegation that the matter would be examined on priority.

The delegation expressed optimism that the necessary notification will be issued at the earliest, fulfilling the long-standing demand of the Scheduled Tribe community in Goa and ensuring their rightful political representation in the State Assembly.
