Mushrooming shanties, bad roads and lack of security stare at the beleaguered residents staying along the District Library road, which links Navelim village to the Margao railway station.
While the residents have to contend with the damaged road, with none of the authorities intervening to fill up the huge craters with rubble, the mushrooming shanties meters away from the indoor stadium under construction have only made their life difficult in recent months.
That they gave vent to their sentiments to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant seeking his intervention to repair the badly damaged road only goes on to show the plight of the people staying in the housing societies, with the damaged road posing danger to the motorists and the pedestrians alike.
While the Chief Minster sought to reassure the beleaguered residents that the road will be repaired and hot-mixed ahead of the National Games scheduled in November, the residents have called for repairing the road by removing the potholes as a temporary measure.
Incidentally, the mushrooming migrant shanties in the vicinity have also agitated the residents, with many questioning the inaction on the part of the authorities, including the MMC, against the illegal structures. The residents drew attention of the media how the new shanties pose a security threat to the residents, further pointing out that the inhabitants of the shanties defecate along the District Library road for want of any sanitation facilities.
