Describing the Citizenship Amendment Act as a landmark decision of the Centre, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant called upon the people not to fall in prey to false propaganda by Opposition parties.
He was addressing a large rally organised by BJP blocks of Sankhali, Bicholim and Mayem constituency to support the CAA in Sankhali town on Wednesday.
“Even though CAA is a historic decision and has been approved by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in the interest of Indian citizens, some elements are resorting to false propaganda and hence, people should not fall in prey to such politically motivated rumours.
Assuring that the law is not against Muslims and Christians residing in India, Sawant also claimed that nobody should be worried about the law.
Mayem MLA Pravin Zantye lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for pushing ahead with the
CAA.
Earlier, the chief minister placed a wreath at the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and also at the photo of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth anniversary.
Others present included Mayem MLA Pravin Zantye, former MLA Anant Shet, Sakhali BJP Block President Gopal Surlakar, Mayem BJP Block President Dayanand Karbotkar, Bicholim BJP Block President Vishwas Gaonkar, North Goa ZP President Ankita Navelkar, former Bicholim block president Vallabh Salkar and others.
