Vasco police arrested Dr Shamshuddin Sayad (39) of Dabolim on charges of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy.
Sources at Vasco police station said the boy was a patient of the doctor, who practises in Chicalim, and was allegedly sexually assaulted on multiple occasions.
The minor is believed to have confided in his parents, who then approached an NGO. The matter was later reported to Vasco police.
Based on the complaint, Vasco police arrested Dr Shamshuddin on March 14 under the POCSO Act and the Children’s Act.
The accused was produced before a court and remanded in police custody for five days.
Further investigation is underway under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
